Who can tell stories?

I was asked by a norwegian reporter for the NRK, Saanerlivet, 19. sep. 2009, who can tell a story. And off course I gave the 100 $ answer: Everybody.
Later I say something a little bit more intelligent.
I say that the people who knows the answers, the people that are sure about things and the too self confident people are not likely to be good storytellers.
Contrary to this is the people who comes up to me and say that they will never learn how to tell stories - then I know I can work, I can find the the diamonds hidden.

At give respons på en historie

Et menneske fortæller en historie til et andet menneske. Lytteren bliver ikke helt fanget, historien er for lang, det er ikke helt til at finde ud af, hvorfor lytteren skal høre den historie lige nu, fortælleren bliver i tvivl undervejs og ledes på afveje. Når historien er slut, er det sin sag at påpege de fejl og mangler, der var ved historien. Mange oplever det meget personligt og sårende at få respons på en fortalt historie. Storytelling is a modern thing - internet and the rest is so oldfashion

Two-Way Communication Imagine a group of managers discussing what to do about communication. One says: “Why don´t we try with storytelling?” and starts explain that stories can make complex messages understandable. The other managers are sceptical. They don´t understand, it sounds a little strange and very modern. The managers are right. Storytelling (oral!) is strange and very modern. Old fashion medias - books, Radio, TV, Movies and in many ways also the Internet (even though it is a more active from of communication it is still based on dead computers) - have one thing in common: They are based on one way communication. So in one sense it gives meaning to say that they don´t really care about you.
